Counseling Against Rape and Abuse (CARA)
Who we are
The CARA program of the Santa Fe Rape Crisis & Trauma Treatment Center is a counseling program for women and men, children and adolescents who have been
victimized by sexual abuse/assault or have experienced it in the past.
When someone is abused, many symptoms can surface, such as:
- Eating and sleeping problems.
- Depression.
- Anxiety.
- Flashbacks.
- Nightmares.
- Problems with relationships.
- Just having a hard time managing one's daily life.
Our CARA treatment team consists of eight caring and trained people
with the following expertise:
- Five licensed, masters-level psychotherapists, two Ph.D. psychologists and one masters-level intern.
- Up-to-date-training in trauma treatment, crisis intervention and various modes of psychotherapy.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Two bilingual therapists (English and Spanish).
What we do
CARA provides:
- Individual therapy, long and short term.
- Group therapy (currently a women's group, girls group and adolescent girls group).
- Couples and family counseling.
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
- Play therapy and sand tray work.
Information
- We are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some late appointments until 7:30 p.m.
- The first four sessions are free.
- From the fifth session on, there is a sliding scale. No one is turned down because of inability to pay.
- A 24-hour hotline is available in the evenings and on weekends for crisis calls.
