It's so much easier to sit back and pretend that the horror of sexual violence doesn't exist in your personal constellation. To actually want to commit yourself to be part of the solution takes a lot of time, energy and emotion, but without the individual commitment from every member of the community, the crime of sexual violence gets more "normalized" and pervasive.

Here are a few things you could do to demonstrate your abhorrence and willingness to get involved rather than remaining in a safe, insulated and uninvolved space:

  • Educate yourself...read books, magazines and reports; call the SFRC & TTC to get the facts.
  • Volunteer! Become a Board of Directors Trustee; serve as a member of a special events committee at the Center (such as our annual V-Day festivities); be an active member of our Development Committee to assist in getting our new building off the ground; try your hand as a school Liaison for any one of our outreach programs such as Viva familia, PASA, Project AWARE or YODA; look into volunteering for our Advocacy Program; don't miss an opportunity to be part of our court watch system by becoming a Court Monitor; never underestimate how much we could use your help as an office volunteer to assist in the day-to-day activities at the heart of our organization; and if you don't see anything on this list of possibilities, come by and we'll do a "designer" volunteer session to see how your particular talents and skills can be transformed in a volunteer capacity.
  • There's always giving $$ on a regular and generous basis to support our many programs and services.
  • We're open to worthy in-kind services and goods.
  • Attend our various community events, such as Take Back the Night, to show your solidarity.
  • Finally, do not ever hesitate to speak out about ending sexual violence!
